As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to accelerate across the United States, drivers in Austin are facing a unique challenge: paying some of the highest fees for charging their vehicles. According to recent data, Austin EV owners are among the lowest-paid in the country for charging, with many paying upwards of $1 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) or more. This disparity is largely due to the city's outdated and complex charging infrastructure, which has led to a patchwork of different pricing systems and limited access to public charging stations. Now, city officials are considering changes to the system, which could bring Austin's EV charging costs more in line with those of other major cities.
