Each year, tens of thousands of young adults leave the U.S. foster care system without stable support, facing significant barriers to independence. A new initiative called Petra Cares is working to bridge that gap by helping former foster youth secure meaningful career opportunities and transition into self-sufficiency. The program focuses on providing access to training, mentorship, and employment connections tailored to their needs. With limited resources often available to this vulnerable population, the effort could mark a critical step toward improving long-term outcomes for those aging out of foster care.

About 23,000 young people age out of the U.S. foster care system each year. Petra Cares aims to connect those young adults with career opportunities.
