Each year, tens of thousands of young adults leave the U.S. foster care system without stable support, facing significant barriers to independence. A new initiative called Petra Cares is working to bridge that gap by helping former foster youth secure meaningful career opportunities. The program focuses on providing resources and connections to employers, recognizing that stable employment is critical for long-term stability. With limited safety nets, these young adults often struggle to transition into adulthood, making targeted career support a key priority.

About 23,000 young people age out of the U.S. foster care system each year. Petra Cares aims to connect those young adults with career opportunities.
