Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is set to shake up Japan's minicar market with the launch of its first locally produced electric minicar. The move is seen as a significant challenge to the dominance of Japanese automakers, which have long held a stronghold in the country's small car market. BYD's entry into the Japanese market comes as the country's government aims to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions. With its proven track record of producing affordable and efficient electric vehicles, BYD is poised to test the mettle of Japanese automakers such as Suzuki and Daihatsu, which have traditionally ruled the minicar segment.
