A recent analysis in Sweden has thrown a wrench into the electric vehicle (EV) industry's plans to adopt nickel-rich batteries. Researchers compared the performance and costs of used Tesla Model 3 batteries, which are primarily made with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry, to those of nickel-based batteries. The results show that the LFP batteries in used Tesla Model 3 packs outlast and retain their capacity better than the pricier nickel-based batteries, even after being cycled extensively.
