New York City is taking another step towards a more sustainable future with the launch of a citywide expansion of curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a major initiative to install thousands of new EV charging stations across the five boroughs, aiming to make EV ownership more accessible and convenient for residents. As part of this effort, the DOT is soliciting feedback from the public on potential locations for these new charging stations, seeking to identify areas with high demand and limited charging infrastructure. The expansion is expected to significantly boost the city's EV charging capacity, supporting Mayor Eric Adams' goal of having 20% of all new car sales be electric by 2030.
