European e-truck manufacturers are expressing concerns over a proposed battery-swapping plan unveiled by Chinese battery giant CATL in partnership with Singapore-based Octopus Energy. The ambitious plan aims to establish a network of high-speed battery-swapping stations across the continent, allowing electric trucks to quickly switch out depleted batteries for fully charged ones. However, industry insiders are questioning the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of such a system, particularly in the heavy-duty trucking sector where batteries are a significant portion of the vehicle's overall weight and cost. As the EU pushes for a faster transition to electric vehicles, the success of CATL's battery-swapping plan will have far-reaching implications for the continent's e-truck market.
