A breakthrough in electric vehicle charging technology has been demonstrated by Fraunhofer IAF, which has developed a gallium nitride (GaN) module capable of enabling bidirectional off-board charging. This innovation allows electric vehicles to not only draw power from the grid but also feed energy back into it, potentially transforming how EVs interact with power systems. The technology could enhance energy efficiency and grid stability by enabling vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications. The demonstration highlights a significant step toward more flexible and sustainable EV infrastructure.
