Hyundai Mobis, the parts and services arm of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group, has opened a new electric drive unit plant in Europe with an annual production capacity of 280,000 units, marking a significant step in the group's strategy to localize EV component manufacturing on the continent. The facility is designed to supply electric motors, inverters, and other core drive components to Hyundai and Kia's European operations, reducing reliance on long-distance shipping from Asia and strengthening supply chain resilience amid ongoing geopolitical and trade uncertainties. The move underscores the intensifying competition among Asian automakers to establish deep manufacturing footprints in Europe as the region accelerates its transition to electric vehicles and tightens emissions regulations.
