Greetings r/cars! Just venting a bit, I had my car parked in the street while I did some work on a family friend's car. I took said car after repairs on a test drive, and as I’m pulling down my street I notice my Jetta is parked at a funny angle and the wheel is up on the curb. The driver’s side rear fender is caved in, trunk lid no longer lines up, bumper cover is damaged, considering the car isn't worth any bit more than $6K, it’s probably totaled. From the photos I took, it’s pretty clear my neighbor backed his F-150 into it, and just left. Didn't leave a note, didn't come to knock on my door to tell me what happened. I figured he didn't even know until I knocked on his door this morning after I saw their truck back in the driveway, his son stated his dad wasn't up yet but would send him over when he’s up and moving, ~30 minutes later he comes to my front door and candidly informed me he was totally aware of it and intended to tell me on Monday (This happened Saturday). So I asked him if he wanted to exchange insurance information. He responded by telling me he was scared his wife would find out because he wasn't allowed to drive due to a health complication, and only had recently gotten the green light. His wife didn't want him to take the truck, but he argued with her to get the keys and this is what happened as a result. He apologized and admitted to it. In which case I informed him I could go to a body shop, get an estimate and have them pay for it, which he also declined. He then asked me to lie to my insurance company and say I don't know who did it. Mind you he is telling me all of this on my front porch, right next to my doorbell camera, which he had also just rung, so it recorded the entire conversation. I am kind of baffled too, it’s a newer F-150, it has the backup sensors, it has a backup camera, how did he hit it? and how did he push it 6 inches up the curb before noticing? Wouldn't the rear sensors in the car be tripping out at that point? I poured my heart and soul into this car, bought it during the pandemic looking for a manual 5-cylinder VW so I could do the IE Power kit on it, make my own exhaust, and pretend to have a Lamborghini V10. I put Cloth Sportwagen seats in the front and back because the leatherette was garbage, and the Sportwagen seats use softer foam (my back hurts). It had Koni shocks and H&R springs on it, the IE Stage 2 intake kit, a custom-made equal tube length header to a high-flow cat down to the stock resonator, and a muffler for a Jetta GLI; it sounds *epic.* What ended up happening is countless road trips through multiple states, tons of new friends made in the Volkswagen community, and absolutely falling in love with this dumb Jetta. I put 30K completely trouble-free miles in it; the 5-cylinder never once gave me a single bit of push back. It’s still even on its original water pump, after hand-fulls of runs through the tail of the dragon, and on plenty of back roads at nearly full send. Just putting this here to vent, I am still not sure what I want to do about it. He said he was going to come over tomorrow and bring insurance information. I haven't gone about filing a police report yet. IMGUR Link submitted by /u/iamnotcreativeDET [link] [comments]
