Malaysian automaker Proton is set to significantly boost its electric vehicle (EV) production capabilities with plans to double the capacity at its new plant dedicated to the development and manufacturing of new energy vehicles (NEVs). The move is part of the company's ambitious strategy to tap into the rapidly growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles in Southeast Asia and beyond. Located in Tanjung Malim, Perak, the facility has already been operational since 2021 and has been producing Proton's first NEV, the X50. With the capacity expansion, Proton aims to meet the increasing demand for its EV models and solidify its position as a major player in the region's electric vehicle market.
