South Korean battery giant Samsung SDI has made a significant move in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, acquiring General Motors' (GM) stake in a joint EV battery plant in Indiana. The facility, which is a joint venture between GM and Samsung SDI, was established in 2020 to meet the growing demand for EV batteries in North America. With this acquisition, Samsung SDI gains full control over the plant, allowing it to expand its production capacity and solidify its position in the global EV battery market. The move is seen as a strategic play by Samsung SDI to capitalize on the rapidly growing EV industry and strengthen its partnership with GM.
